Expat Answerman Things to do when you arrive in the Philippines Expat Answerman Philippines Book 4 eBook Bob Martin Aaron Martin
This is coming from someone who moved to the Philippines and lasted a year and ran home to the states because of mistakes. Here's what I will say, If I had read this book prior to living in the Philippines I may have dismissed it. This is because I wouldn't have believed in the modern day age that some of this was true. Let me tell you this : Believe this to be true. The banking is a big deal, pay attention. The fact of having trusted locals or family members near you can help you tremendously when you need to get things done. The truth of being polite is a fact, We cano's tend to be brash and loud to get our point across, especially when we are upset. This does not work in the philippines, confrontation is the last thing they want. It will get you know where yelling at a person. Except disrespect, oh you will be smiled at still but you will not be respected.Learning the language is a must, I have come to realize now. I was one that said ...Why they speak english, right ? yes they do but what bob said in the book was a wake up call. I have been one of those Americans that has always said " blah blah blah needs to learn our language if they want to be here " . Bam like a rock to my head ! I will be learning the language before we return in 2017. It is out of respect to my filipino family, also to the filipino's. Plus it is true when you don't know the language you feel left out....because you are. Great Thanks Bob for making me return to school at 51 years old haha.
I will wrap it up like this : If you have only visited the philippines and you think you know how things work...you don't ! I was this dumb my first time around. I learned alot the hard and expensive way. I will tell any reader to belive this info and also to be thankful that Bob has nailed it on the head. As I said, the banking, is very important, also bringing cash in. And who knew I could , if i so desire, work in a call center ! Yes the pay is low interms of american cash, but if you want to live without sucking your savings away this could be a good way of supplementing that.
Great Book Bob, again I learned more than a few things that had never crossed my path, especially the cash I can bring into the country and out of the US. and all your banking info really was windfall of Info that google can not help me with in any efficient manner.
Thanks Bob

I plan to move to the Philippines and this helped get a broader understanding of the nation.
I enjoyed other writings by Bob also
Excellent information for those planning on moving to the R.P., especially regarding banking. Bob, as a successful entrepreneur, shares his insights along with other long-term expat's ideas.
