Wow, by viewing the cover of this book, I didn't expect to enjoy it. This book is titled, A Date With Destiny, however, I think it should have been titled, Karma, Caught up, All that Glitter Isn't Gold, or even, W.T.F, because of everything that happen within the story.
The story starts with Destiny waiting on a blind date, and once that date took place, things start to happen that had a domino effect. Destiny's previous relationship mold her into the person she currently is. Her last boyfriend cheated on her and did something also that was unforgivable. Now she's met Hakim, a hot director who does music videos. She then meets Ace, a new and hot rapper on the music scene. What happens from one guy to the next takes Destiny through hurt, drama, shame, pain, lost and denial. Some of the decisions Destiny made was unbelievable to me, but I also understood why. Being that she is a stylist for celebrities, when her life transitions her to the music industry and she becomes a singer and gets more caught up, it was sad to see the path she took. Bet yet again, through hurt comes joy in the morning. I'm also glad to see who she ends up with in the end. I thought their ending was worth it and sweet. Both Hakim and Ace, definitely kept you wondering who is the right person for her. But half way through, true colors starts to show and you knew whose intentions were right. I also liked that the author uses singers like, Jill Scott along with others, to pick a song to select the moods the characters were in at certain scenes in the book. It made me want to go straight to my itunes and start playing.
This is my second book by the author and it definitely won't be my last. By reading this author's work, I like how you think the story would stay on course, but the author throws in little twist and turns that does make you wonder if things will go as plan.

A Date With Destiny edition by Annie Gunn Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
So I was eagerly anticipating this book, after falling in LOVE with Annie Gunn's freshman novel 'Cash on Delivery'. Honestly, I didn't care much for the cover but knew that the content inside would more than enough to satisfy me, so without hesitation I one-clicked this book.
The beginning of the book immediately starts with Destiny on her first date with Hakim. I fell in love with his character immediately. Annie's dialogue is completely realistic and one of my favorite aspects when I read her books. The men have a sort of smoothness to them that I LOVE!!! Of course, when Ace's character was introduced, I fell head over heels for him (looks-wise he is my DREAM MAN. But that personality... You'll soon see)
At times, I'll admit that I've been like Destiny (won't say whether or not that's a good thing. lol), so I do find that her character is realistic to some women. But a lot of times I just wanted to smack her for the things that she did. This book had me fallin' in love with characters, yelling at characters, and opening my mouth in shock at some events that occurred in the book. I do feel that the storyline was different from a lot of the books I read, but still had that street edge even though I would probably classify this book as contemporary.
I did have a few small issues with the book (Thankfully, EDITING is NEVER a problem), such as I didn't feel a few relationships were fully explained by the end of the book and some things I wish were expanded on, weren't, but nothing that completely took away or distracted from the book. There is a lot of designer name dropping but I didn't feel it was overkill. It was necessary (IMO) to show how glamourously these characters were truly living. Sometimes I felt there could've been more action, other times the action would hit you like a car accident--completely unexpected and leaving you unable to put down the book even for a second, eager to see how things would pan out. It was also great to see a small appearance from Bianca and Capone (C.O.D. 2 comin' soon and I can't wait!). I certainly can't forget the descriptive imagery. Some of the places and things were described had me feeling as though I was there with the characters and I wondered if the author had been to these places herself. Her books have me curious to visit STL.
All in all, I enjoyed this book and would recommend to friends. Can't wait to read her next novel and I'm sure it won't disappoint! Definitely download a sample and see what 'A Date with Destiny' has to offer.
Drama drama drama... Destiny started off good. She was a beautiful independent woman who had her own. Then she just veered off to the left. And boy did she ride a drama train. I kept hoping that her prince was her prince, but he just had to ruin it with his froggy moments. I really enjoyed reading this book. I was surprised at the end because there was no epilogue. Does this mean there will be a sequel?
Annie giiiiiirl! My wack ass is sitting here crying like a baby! Between Hakim's unconditional love and Destiny's father's 'visits?' Chile please......and then you had the nerve to play my favorite song by Sade when she walked down the aisle to Hakim?... shiiiiid..... 5 star status for you 'boo boo' You have inspired me to write. I already sing with my husband and we make beautiful music together but now the other crazy s*** in my head needs to be unleashed. Thanks for the inspiration and I look forward to reading more! You are the poo fa' sho!
Destiny is caught in a web of love lust lies and confusion. A career woman with her own everything, independent yet so needy. She needs love, happiness and some order in her life. A date with Destiny begins with a blind date with Hakim - a sucessful director for videos and movies. However, things quickly go wrong when Hakim leaves to Africa to direct a fil at short notice and leaves Destiny wanting more. Destiny met Ace during her and Hakims first date and Ace a immediately wanted her. Ace - rapper/ player of the year wins Destinys heart. They get married than she gets the shock of her life when his first wife is still his first wife, beautiful and expecting a baby. Turns out Destiny was involved in a sham marriage. Hakim to the rescue, as he waits on Destiny hand and foot until shes ready to be his, end up being a beautiful love story and these two get to walk down the ailse together. I loved it, I left out so much didnt want to spoil the book. Wasnt able to put it down. Worth every penny, only 99 of them, but worth it.
