This won't help you fix your own motorcycle but it describes how the first motorcycles were developed. So saying, it is more a study in history. If you like things like technical history and the development of the motorcycle then it may be just the right thing. If you just want to fix your motorcycle then stay away. I would advise reading it and seeing if it is the kind of thing you are looking for. doesn't let you see a Preview but you can read the entire book for free by going to Hathitrust Digital Library and entering the title in the search box.
Good reference book
For a book this old it is filled with a good deal of information. I have been looking for some of this information for some time. Thanks to the people who did this.
A waste of money.
I thoroughly enjoyed the information in this reproduction of the original book. I read it cover to cover.
That said, the reproduction is of very, very low quality. It looks like no post production at all was done to the scans. The page edges are often seen, and there is a significant grey background tint to every scan, and often more grey at the page corner, etc.
I really could let that go, if not for the most glaring thing that I noticed immediately upon opening it and that everyone who has seen my copy immediately comments on the size of the content vs. the size of the page. The pages are small to begin with; 5 by 7", but the content area is only 2 7/8 by 5" tall. Why they didn't use more of the space that they had available is beyond me, unless ink was scarce that month. By the time you allow for the margins on the original page, the actual text area is less than 2 1/2 by 4 1/2" high for 40 lines of type! This makes the book genuinely a chore to read, and renders the line drawings even moreso. The line drawings are dimensioned, and often a magnifier is necessary to make out the dimensions.
There's something of a disclaimer on the back cover "this book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original, or were introduced by the scanning process."
"....introduced by the scanning process", indeed. As if they had no control?
not really a book to just sit and read. more like a how to build from scratch. good historical document.
